Emotional Literacy Support Assistant (ELSA)

At our school we are committed to supporting not only pupils’ academic

progress but also their emotional wellbeing. To help achieve this, we have a trained Emotional Literacy Support Assistant (ELSA), Mrs Moore, who works closely with pupils to support their social and emotional development.

ELSA is a nationally recognised programme designed to help children understand and manage their emotions, build resilience, and develop positive relationships. Mrs Moore has received specialist training to deliver targeted support through individual or small group sessions.

During ELSA sessions, pupils may work on areas such as:

  • Recognising and understanding emotions

  • Building self-esteem and confidence

  • Developing social skills and friendships

  • Managing anxiety, worries, or anger

  • Coping with change, loss, or difficult situations

The sessions are carefully planned to meet the needs of each child and use a range of activities such as games, stories, discussions, and creative tasks in a safe and supportive environment.

Mrs Moore works closely with teachers and school staff to ensure that the support provided complements classroom learning and helps pupils feel confident, secure, and ready to learn.
