History
Subject Leader- Miss Sutton
We believe that History should inspire curiosity, deepen understanding and help children make sense of the world around them. In line with the aims of the National Curriculum, our history curriculum is designed to give pupils a coherent knowledge and understanding of Britain’s own past and that of the wider world.
We are committed to ensuring that children develop a secure chronological knowledge, enabling them to understand how events and civilisations are connected across time. Through the study of significant individuals, diverse societies and key turning points in local, national and global History, pupils learn how the past has shaped the society in which we live today.
Our teaching promotes the core disciplinary skills of historians: asking perceptive questions, thinking critically, weighing evidence, analysing sources and developing perspective and judgement. We encourage children to understand that History is constructed from evidence and that interpretations may differ.
By fostering curiosity, respect for different cultures and an appreciation of diversity, we aim to develop informed, reflective and responsible citizens who understand both the achievements and complexities of the past. Through engaging, knowledge-rich learning experiences, we empower every child to see themselves as historians and to recognise the relevance of history in shaping their future
We are not just makers of History, we are made by History.”
Martin Luther King.
