Looked After Children (LAC) and Previously Looked After Children (PLAC)

At our school, we are committed to ensuring that all children feel safe, supported and able to thrive. We recognise that children who are looked after, or who have previously been looked after, may have experienced significant change or disruption in their early lives. As a result, they may require additional understanding, stability and support to help them reach their full potential.

We adopt a trauma-informed approach across our provision. This means that staff understand how early experiences and trauma can impact children’s development, behaviour and emotional wellbeing. Our practice focuses on building trusting relationships, creating predictable routines and responding to children with empathy, patience and consistency.
We work closely with carers, families, social workers and other professionals to ensure that the needs of looked after and previously looked after children are fully understood and supported.
This includes:
  • Providing a safe, nurturing and inclusive environment
  • Ensuring key staff build strong, trusting relationships with children
  • Monitoring progress carefully and providing additional support where needed
  • Maintaining effective communication with carers, families and external agencies
  • Supporting children’s emotional wellbeing, confidence and sense of belonging
Our aim is to ensure that every child feels valued, understood and supported so they can flourish socially, emotionally and academically.

Working in Partnership

Strong partnership working is key to supporting LAC and PLAC pupils. We work closely with carers, families, social workers and local authorities to ensure that every child receives the support they need.
