Lift Off To Language is a speech and language programme for early years education settings, (2 years & 3-5 years - up to the end of foundation stage), developed by Bedfordshire and Luton speech and language therapists.

Practitioners complete training and pass a quality accreditation visit by the speech and language therapy team, to be certified to deliver Lift Off To Language.

The programme consists of 6 sessions each lasting approximately 20 minutes for groups of 4-6 children. The sessions provide an opportunity for focused support on Communication and Language to children within the environment that they are secure and comfortable in.

Activities within the sessions can be selected dependent upon children’s areas of need within Communication and Language and target skills including attention & listening, social interactions, confidence, turn taking, comprehension, and expressive language skills and vocabulary including verbs and adjectives. The activities also support the development of children’s comprehension and expression of various concepts i.e., prepositions, opposites, and categories of vocabulary e.g., animals, clothes. Activities & target skills are shared with families, which can often be incorporated within daily routines.
