Apply for a school place during the academic year
In-year applications are for admissions during the academic school year, other than the normal year of entry (starting school, transfer to middle school, transfer to upper school).
Any place offered needs to be taken up within 4 to 6 weeks or by the start of the next school term.
What you'll need to apply
It is important that you provide any relevant documentation to support your application this could include:
- proof of your child's date of birth
- proof of address (for military families you must provide proof of billeting address)
- any relevant court orders with your application
The processing of your application will be delayed if you fail to submit the relevant evidence.
Getting to school
It is important to consider how your child will travel to school before submitting your application, and only include preferences that you can transport your child to.
Applying for more than one child
If you are applying for more than one child, you need to complete an application form for each child.
What will happen next?
The school/academy will process your application and write to you to inform you of the result. If they cannot offer you a place, they will advise you of their waiting list arrangements and how to make an appeal.
If your application is unsuccessful
Your child will be added to the waiting list: for community and VC schools this will be until the end of the academic year for the Year group you have applied for. For academies, foundation and voluntary-aided schools, please check the school's admission arrangements or contact the school/academy. You will need to re-apply from May to be placed on the school's waiting list for the new academic year (if applicable) if you have not already applied for the new Year group.
Waiting lists are prioritised according to the oversubscription criteria for the school, not in the date order of when the application was received.
You will have the right to appeal
If you live in Central Bedfordshire and do not currently have a school place in the local area, we will offer a place at the next nearest school with places available.
For any in-year applications made to us, you will have 25 school days to appeal an unsuccessful decision from the date on your outcome letter.
Applying for a school place outside of Central Beds
If you are applying for a school/academy outside of Central Bedfordshire, you should contact the local authority where the school or academy is in. They will be able to advise whether you need to apply to its school admissions team or directly to the school/academy.
Changing your mind
If you would like to change the school preferences on your application, or the order you have listed them, you need to complete a change of preference form.
Arrangements for the admission of pupils with disabilities
The Disability Discrimination Act 1995 defines a disabled person as one who has a physical or mental impairment which has a substantial and long-term adverse effect on a persons’ ability to carry out normal day-to-day activities. Most children with Special Needs will not be disabled within the meaning of the Act.
The admission of pupils with disabilities is considered in the first instance in the same way as non-disabled pupils. Further considerations are made in the light of need and accessibility. It is the School Governors’ Policy to accommodate pupils with disabilities should parents wish their child to attend the school. Steps are taken to prevent any pupils being treated less favourably than other pupils. In practice we ensure that classroom and extra-curricular activities encourage the participation of all pupils, including those categorised as having Special Educational Needs. Staff organise human and physical resources within the school to increase access to learning and participation by all pupils. The School strives to ensure that whatever the abilities and needs of members of the school community, everyone is equally valued and treats one another with respect under the Equality Act 2010.
ARP Admissions
We have an 8 place SEMH Additional Resource Provision within the school. Places for this ARP are allocated via Central Bedfordshire SEND Team through a panel. Any parent or carer who is interested in a place for their child within this provision should contact the SEND team in the first instance at centralbedfordshire.gov.uk
